The Office
This building served as the office at the mill. It was originally constructed in 1929 as a two-room cabin for the first millwright, Mr. Solloway, and his wife, to live in. Over the following years, other employees and their families lived here as well. However, in 1948, all office functions were moved to this building where they remained until 1962. It was a perfect location for the office as it overlooked all of the on goings at the mill. The bookkeeper would work in the front room of the cabin, while, Howard McLean had his office in what was previously the West bedroom.
Restoration:
This building was found in poor condition, having rot in many places, moss and detritus on the roof, and a large tree undermining its structural integrity. Stabilization of the building was required, replacing the rotting wood, new roof, and repairs to the front porch. In 2001 dangerous areas were blocked off and minor repairs were made in order to make the building accessible to the public. In 2002 a few furnishing items were added. We are continually collecting more artifacts and furniture, in order to continue bringing this building back to life as accurately as possible.
